The role of a Trustee at CWVA

Kathy loves being able to help organisations in the community sector have a strong voice through her Trustee role at Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA).

1 to 5 November is Trustees Week, providing an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the great work of the 700,000 volunteer trustees who support charities in England and Wales.

CWVA helps communities in west Cheshire grow and thrive by connecting charitable organisations, volunteers and businesses to champion social action, working with around 500 members.

While Kathy became a Trustee of CWVA in 2020, her involvement with the organisation goes back more than a decade as it helped her take her first steps into the community sector.

She said: “Since being diagnosed with a chronic health condition and accessing services from my early 20s, I found a passion for supporting local communities and the NHS to address health inequalities.

“The CWVA team played a pivotal part in my change of career back in 2009, supporting me to find volunteer work in the sector.

“For me to become Co Chair of CWVA, it feels like I’ve gone full circle from accessing CWVA’s support to now supporting the organisation.”

As a Trustee, you can make a big difference in such an important role, setting the future direction of charities.

Kathy added: “I enjoy being able to support such an integral organisation even if it’s in a small way.

“I’ve spent more than 10 years working in the sector and firmly believe the work our CWVA members do is essential to support our communities.

“I’m proud of the fact I’m able to play a small part in promoting and giving a voice to these groups and organisations when attending various events, boards and network meetings as I feel it’s crucial to promote these vital services.”

There are plenty of opportunities to become a Trustee and not only do something positive in your local communities, but also learn new skills and develop your own career.
