As part of the Year of Volunteering campaign, nominations for Volunteer Awards Month are now open.
The Year of Volunteering campaign, which is being run by Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) and Cheshire West and Chester Council, has been relaunched with a different theme each month.
December has been labelled Volunteer Awards Month, rounding off the year with a big celebration of the role volunteers play in their communities.
While volunteers have arguably been in the spotlight more than ever before during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, they’ve always been a key part of society and that will continue to be the case in the future.
Below are the categories for Volunteer Awards Month.
Younger Volunteer of the Year
This is awarded to any volunteer aged under 25 who may have shown commitment and enthusiasm to their volunteering role, developed in a personal capacity or is keen to learn new skills.
Older Volunteer of the Year
This is awarded to any volunteer aged over 60 who may have shown commitment and enthusiasm to their volunteering role by sharing their skills, wisdom and knowledge.
Inspirational Volunteer of the Year
This is awarded to any volunteer who may have made an exceptional contribution to volunteering and inspires others through their actions. Volunteers may have overcome adversity or challenges in their volunteering journey.
Trustee of the Year
This award recognises the work of trustees. It could be given to a board member who has shown great commitment or developed their organisation through their skills and expertise.
SkillShare Partner of the Year
This award recognises a CWVA SkillShare volunteer who has offered their professional skills and expertise to help charities deliver their services more effectively, helping to create a better local community.
Please note: this award isn’t open for nominations. CWVA will shortlist candidates heavily involved in the SkillShare project over the previous 12 months for the Judging Panel to choose a winner.
Friends of Group of the Year
This award recognises outstanding effort and time dedicated to the care and conservation of the environment and community.
New Volunteer-Led Group of the Year
This is a brand-new award for 2020. It will be awarded to a new group led by volunteers that has made a significant difference to the community and the people it supports.
Special Contribution to COVID-19 Response
While volunteers and groups supporting the COVID-19 response can be nominated for other awards, this particular award will be given to an individual or organisation that has made a special contribution to the COVID-19 response in west Cheshire. The Judging Panel will look at all ranges of nominations and the part they’ve played over the last couple of months.
Nominate worthy winners
With nominations now open, make sure you have your say and put forward any person or organisation you feel deserves to be recognised.
The deadline for all nominations is 30 October 2020. The Judging Panel deciding on the awards will be announced over the next couple of weeks.
From 1 December 2020, CWVA and the Council will be announcing the different winners daily and putting together stories to highlight all the great work they’ve been doing.
